6 Ways to Protect your Family from Viruses, including Ebola

17

Pretty much every year, the media scares the majority of us with news of the latest virus that is making individuals sick or worse. Viral infections that have hit the world in recent years include H1N1, West Nile Virus, Norwalk Virus, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and Ebola, amongst others. Here are 6 areas of our lives to focus on if we want to protect our families and make them virus resistant and the healthiest possible:

1.  Healthy Diet

A healthy diet can increase immunity against all viruses. Immune suppressors are:

  • caffeine
  • alcohol
  • tobacco
  • sugar
  • sugar substitutes
  • refined carbohydrates
  • red meats
  • processed foods

Eating foods with chemicals, genetically modified ingredients (wheat, corn, soy) or foods deficient in vitamins and minerals, increases the chances of catching any kind of virus. Eating foods to which we are sensitive or allergic, also weakens our resistance and encourages viral infections to spread. The common allergens include:

  • milk/dairy
  • wheat
  • sugar
  • soy
  • corn
  • citrus
  • eggs

2.  Exercise

Exercise strengthens the immune system. Thirty minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise three to four times a week is a minimum requirement.

3.  Rest and Relaxation

Rest and Relaxation is also vital to fighting off viruses. Far too many individuals are sleep deprived. Most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep each night and children need even more. Stress causes poor digestion which significantly impacts the health of our whole immune system.

4.  Supplements

Certain supplements also boost the immune system.

  • Probiotics and all anti-oxidant vitamins and minerals are key to proper immune function.
  • Vitamin D, specifically, helps the body make Cathelicidin, a natural antimicrobial that attacks all pathogens, including viruses. Interestingly, ultraviolet radiation, needed to make more Vitamin D, inactivates Ebola. Recent studies prove that Vitamin D in high doses also prevents and treats influenza.
  • Vitamin C, also in high doses i.e. 10,000 mg daily, boosts the immune system and is capable of killing certain viruses. Stronger viruses would require higher doses, such as 100,000 mg daily, administered intravenously. Death by Ebola is caused my massive internal bleeding, which can be stopped by huge doses of Vitamin C.

5.  Anti-viral Remedies

Anti-viral remedies include Oil of Oregano and Colloidal Silver.

6.  Anti-viral Herbs

Anti-viral herbs include:

  • Garlic
  • Echinacea
  • Lomatium
  • Myrrh Gum
  • North American and Siberian Ginseng
  • Astragalus
  • Reishi
  • St, John’s Wort
  • Thuja
  • Wild Indigo
  • Curcumin
  • Tumeric Rhizome

Why are viruses so prevalent these days? Poor diet, global warming (recently confirmed to truly exist by the United Nations), habitat destruction, human overpopulation, international trade and travel, and lifestyle habits are all factors. Ebola is actually a slowly mutating virus and is not easily transmitted amongst humans. It was poverty and poor sanitation that caused the recent Ebola outbreak to become so serious.

We can spend our days worrying about something that may or may not happen or we can live each moment to the fullest. I choose the latter and use many of these ideas to help my family live our lives to the fullest!
